Our Philosophy

The philosophy of St. Francis Xavier Preparatory School is rooted in our school motto: Domine Doce Nos, Lord Teach Us. The sermon on the mount serves as the archetype of our Lord’s teaching to us. We ask for instruction in the holiness, wisdom, humility, mercy peacefulness, charity, patience, and kindness. We believe and we teach: that God comes first, reverence for the sacred, in weekly worship, in the respect for life, in respect for the material world God has entrusted to our care. These are virtues that are the rock of our faith.

Within the framework of our educational environment, we seek to educate the whole person. Therefore, the goals and objectives as developed by the staff, strive to reflect a deep concern for the intellectual, spiritual, social, emotional, and physical development of all students. We believe that self-reliance is the key to a student’s self-esteem.

Respect within the school community is a cornerstone of our philosophy. This respect is evidenced in the friendly relationships that develop between teachers and staff, between students and teachers, and among the students themselves. Learning takes place here in a relaxed yet courteous environment. Saint Francis Xavier Preparatory School is a place where students, teachers, staff, parents, and parishioners form a community which works together in charity and sincerity. As part of God's creation we are expected to serve one another. Doing so, we uphold the dignity of the person and help fulfill the Church's commitment to building of community.

The school strives to be a successful support system to the families who want the Christian virtues which they try to instill at home to be fortified at school. We believe that parents enrich their own faith by participating in the formal religious education of their children through baptism, Eucharist, penance, confirmation, and weekly church attendance. Parents' words and example should teach about God and should respond to Christ’s commandment: Love one another. Such integration of instruction makes us a community of disciples of Christ.

Academic excellence is of the highest importance at Saint Francis Xavier Preparatory School. As educators, the staff of Saint Francis Xavier Preparatory School has the special responsibility of encouraging each student to achieve his/her potential within the framework of religious truths and values. We work collaboratively with the Office of Catholic Schools and pastors of feeding parishes in fulfilling the mission of Catholic schools in the Diocese of Fall River.

We instruct our students to pursue those things which are honorable, pure, good, true, and just. We believe this is a dynamic process, mandating us to implement the way of Christ in all times, places and conditions. Ultimately, we work to help our students to know, love, and serve God. To know God, our students are taught according to the Gospels of Jesus Christ. To know Him is to know His Father
